What counts as a cameo?
A cameo is a Pokémon or trainer appearing in a card's illustration when the card isn't about them. Think of a Natu perched in the background of a Bouffalant from Legendary Treasures, or the Weedle tucked into the original Base Set Scoop Up trainer card.
Cameo binders are a fun way to collect a favorite: you get to hunt through every era, rarity and language, and a lot of cameo cards are commons that cost very little. The hard part is knowing they exist.
The resource: Cameo Pokémon Card Database
The spreadsheet is split into tabs: a Main tab, one tab per generation (Gen 1 to Gen 9) and a Trainers tab. Each row points you to the card's set and number so you can look it up. It credits pkmncards, Pokumon, Bulbapedia and JustInBasil as sources, and takes community submissions through Reddit, Bluesky and Discord, so it keeps growing.
It's a volunteer project. If you spot a missing cameo while you collect, send it to the maintainer through the links on the sheet.
Build a cameo binder in binder.studio
- Find your Pokémon or trainer in the sheetOpen the generation tab your favorite debuted in, or the Trainers tab, and use your browser's find (Ctrl/⌘ + F) to jump to every row that mentions them.
- Note the set and card numberFor each row, write down the card name, set and number. Numbers matter: many cards were reprinted with different art.
- Search and pick the exact printingIn the workspace, search the card name, then pick the result whose set and number match. For cards only printed in Japan, switch the search language to Japanese. English Pokémon names still work.
- Give the theme its own pagesName a page after the theme ("Natu cameos", "Champion Cynthia") and drop cards into pockets. Drag to reorder until the page reads well.
- Tick ✓ what you ownCards you don't have yet stay faded, so the gaps are obvious. Your collection checklist gives you a still-needed list to export as a CSV or print for card shows.
- Check for duplicatesBefore you buy, use Find in binders to see whether a card is already planned somewhere else in your collection.
Example: a Champion Cynthia page
Trainers work the same way. This page gathers Cynthia across Platinum, Sun & Moon, Sword & Shield and Scarlet & Violet, from Ken Sugimori's Supporter art to her Pokémon in Destined Rivals. It's built in binder.studio and you can open it as a starting point.

Swap in cameo cards from the Trainers tab to round the page out, then add a second page as the list grows.
Tips for cameo collections
- Group by era or by role. Pages like "Background cameos" and "Trainer cameos" make a big list easier to browse.
- Mix languages on purpose. Some cameos only exist on Japanese or promo cards. binder.studio keeps the language on each pocket.
- Leave room. New sets keep adding cameos. An empty pocket at the end of a page saves you re-sleeving later.
- Add an art insert as a page header. See finding artwork for binder art inserts.
